Who Is AnnWrites?
I started my career as a trainee copywriter, writing newspaper ads. I worked with many small ad agencies in India for seven years and then I started getting online work via Elance. It’s the writing flea-market of the web. I felt as if I’d hit a sort of glass ceiling, nobody wanted to pay extra for someone with a lot of experience. So I turned to novels. I still haven’t decided if I want to disclose my real name.
I went anonymous in 2010 or so. A bunch of students got arrested over their facebook posts. While the Supreme Court ordered their release, I was spooked and have stayed anonymous ever since.
How Did You Get Into Writing?
The way most writers do…We never consciously plan to start writing stories, it just happens. I started writing poems at the age of eight and I remember pestering my mom for more topics to write about. But I used to tell everybody that I wanted to be an artist. Then I won a story writing contest in a popular children’s magazine at the age of 11. That seemed to settle it and I decided to be a writer, since I never ever won a prize for anything else.
How Did The Story Come About?
I wish I could say that I dreamed of a dimpled, grey-eyed cutie and he began to tell me this haunting story of his life….Nope. Didn’t happen that way.
I came to wattpad to get some readers for my humorous children’s book, The ImPerfect Kid. I love to read childrens books. I still haven’t outgrown them in my forties 😉
But I realized that few readers on wattpad cared for my book. So I made a brief survey of popular books and decided to write a sleazy romance. I added the paranormal element just because I like dark, mysterious men. I saw that readers like the hint of paranormal suspense and decided to step it up chapter by chapter. Eventually I realized that I couldn’t write those sleazy romances even if I tried, so I removed a lot of sex scenes and focused on the paranormal and suspense elements.
Future Plans For The Story?
For now, I just want to complete it! Saying anything more would be like counting your chickens before they hatch.
